RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND CLINICAL, PARA-CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS IN COPD PATIENTS WITH EXACERBATION
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To determine the relationship between BMI, SGA, MNA and some clinical and paraclinical characteristics in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbation at Military Hospital 103. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional prospective study carried on 66 patients with COPD exacerbation, treated as inpatients at the Respiratory Center of Military Hospital 103 from September 2020 to May 2021. Results: The male/female ratio is 12.2/1, the average age was 68.36 ± 8.61 years old. BMI was quite low (19.82 ± 2.91 kg/m2). The mean value of SGA score was high (35.25 ± 6.82) while MNA score being low (17.12 ± 2.42). BMI and MNA scores were negatively correlated with the number of hospitalized exacerbations, MRC score, PaCO2 and positively correlated with post-test FVC and post-test FEV1 (p < 0.05). SGA score had a positive correlation with the number of exacerbations in the year, number of hospitalizations, MRC score (p < 0.01) and PaCO2 (p < 0.05), and negative correlation with albumin, post-test FVC and post-test FEV1 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: BMI and MNA scores were negatively correlated with the number of hospitalized exacerbations, MRC score, PaCO2 and positively correlated with post-test FVC and post-test FEV1 (p < 0.05). SGA score has a positive correlation with the number of exacerbations in the year, number of hospitalizations, MRC score (p < 0.01) and PaCO2 (p < 0.05), and negative correlation with albumin, post-test FVC and post-test FEV1 (p < 0.05).
