Abstract

Autoimmune encephalitis with anti-LGI1 antibodiesis a rare form of autoimmune encephalitis that has been recently studied and is treatable. In this study, we present three cases of autoimmune encephalitis positive for anti-LGI1 antibodies. The first case is a female patient who presented with rapidly progressive dementia and psychiatric disturbances. The other two cases involve elderly patients admitted with dementia, who experienced multiple seizures unresponsive to conventional antiepileptic drugs and were found to have hyponatremia. MRI imaging revealed bilateral hippocampal hyperintensities on T2 and FLAIR sequences, without diffusion restriction. All three patients showed a favorable response to immunotherapy with corticosteroids and plasma exchange.
