Clinical and subclinical characteristics of pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae in children in VietNam military hospital 103

Abstract
Aim: To describe clinical and subclinical characteristics in paediatric patiens with pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) on Pediatric Department, Vietnam Military 103 Hospital.
Method: descriptive cross-sectional study about the clinical and subclinical characteristics was performed on 53 children aged between 1- 15 years old with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia at the Pediatric Department of VietNam Military 103 Hospital from June 2023 to December 2023.
Results: Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia was more commonly detected in children between 2 to 5 years old, 66%. The average time of disease onset was 6.7 days. Clinical manifestations are the most common symtoms and signs were cough (98.1%), fever (90.6%), runny nose (32.1%), rales sound in the lungs (62.3%), tachypnea (28.3%), rare symptoms of chest pain (1, 9%), skin rash (3.8%). Blood test showed that in most case had normal or slightly increased blood cell but the CRP level increased by 62.3%. The most common of thoracic radiography was lobe consolidation (54.7%) and infiltrates in both lungs (37.7%), pleural effusion is rare only 1.9%.
Conclusion: Children with pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae are mainly in the age group of 2 to 5 years. The time from exposure to symtoms, is on avarage 6,7 days with the most common clinical signs were cough, fever, rales sound in the lungs, increasd Crp index and the most frequent radiological pattern was segmental infiltrate. Therefore, knowning of clinical and subclinical may be important for management and treatment of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in children.
