Abstract

Objective: Describe the current state of organizing medical rescue and transportation for war wounded during the destructive war in North Vietnam from 1965 to 1972. Methods: A retrospective study analyzing secondary data on the medical care of war wounded during the war in North Vietnam from 1965 to 1972. Results: The ratio of military medics applying bandages to wounded soldiers varied from 26.63% to 65.82%; self-bandaging by soldiers or by comrades accounted for a relatively high percentage, ranging from 28.60% to 63.13%. At the central military medical stations and divisions, the monthly discharge rate of wounded soldiers to their units was 75.82%. The average recovery time was 11.5 days. At the hospital, the treatment team experienced fluctuations in discharge rates over the years, with an average rate of 53.76%, peaking in the two years 1966 and 1972 (57.16% and 56.31%, respectively). The percentage of wounded soldiers transported to surgical lines within 6 hours during the war increased to 21.65%. This percentage varied between years, reaching its highest in 1968 (35.67%) and lowest in 1967 (15.33%). The rate of ambulance transfers was high, particularly in 1967 (55.45%). Conclusion: Military medical stations effectively carried out the mission of rescuing and treating wounded soldiers, from initial bandaging to specialized treatment. The transportation time significantly improved each year, and the percentage of wounded soldiers transported to surgical lines within 6 hours steadily increased.
