Abstract

Dengue is the most common mosquito-borne viral infection worldwide. Recent observations indicate that the clinical profile of Dengue is changing. Neurological manifestations related to Dengue infections are increasingly been observed and appears as a challenge for medical practice. The pathogenesis of neurological manifestations is multiple and includes: neurotrophic effect of the Dengue virus (DENV), the systemic effects of Dengue infection, and immune mediated. Although the exact incidence of various neurological complications is uncertain, a variety of the neurological complications of Dengue virus infection has been described as a result of the involvement of central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, ophthalmic complications, as well as neuromuscular diseases. This topic describes potential pathogenetic mechanisms and neurological manifestations of Dengue virus infection. Awareness of neurological symptoms may facilitate its diagnosis and management and improve outcome in such patients.
