Abstract

Laughing gas (N2O - Nitrous oxide) is a colorless gas with a scent that causes nervous excitement and creates a feeling of laughter when inhaled, so it is called laughing gas. Due to its nervous excitement, laughing gas has been abused by young people in Vietnam in the form of laughing balls or laughing gas cylinders in recent years. In addition to causing nervous excitement, laughing gas also causes many complications when abused, of which neurological complications such as subacute spinal cord injury and peripheral neuropathy have been reported domestically and around the world. Our case is a 25-year-old male patient with a history of abusive use of laughing gas, with symptoms of fever, numbness, limb weakness and ataxia, admitted to the hospital on the 10th day of illness combined both clinical examination results and laboratory tests showed that the patient had subacute spinal cord injury and peripheral nervous system damage due to nitrous oxide abuse. The patient was treated with Vitamin B12 supplementation, rehabilitation and was discharged from the hospital after 2 weeks of treatment with good recovery.
