Abstract

(1)Objective: Evaluate the effect of midazolam when combined with propofol for induction of anesthesia and laryngeal mask airway (LMA) insertion for necrosectomy and skin grafting in burn patients. (2) Methods: Clinical intervention study on 60 patients aged 18–60 years old, ASA I–II, without a history of cardiovascular disease, randomly divided into 2 groups: Group 1 (n = 30) was induced with midazolam 0.04 mg/kg, fentanyl 3 mg/kg, and propofol 2 mg/kg; Group 2 (n = 30) was induced with fentanyl 3 mg/kg and propofol 3 mg/kg. (3) Results: The total dose of propofol required for induction of anesthesia and successful LMA insertion for patients in group 1 (2.12 mg/kg) was significantly less than that in group 2 (3.07 mg/kg) (p<0.05); there was no difference in the LMA score insertion between both groups (p>0.05); the percentage of hypotension after induction in group 2 (43.33%) was higher than that in group 1 (13.33%) (p<0.05). (4) Conclusion: Midazolam reduces the dose of propofol required for induction of anesthesia, stabilizes hemodynamics, and ensures the successful insertion of LMA for necrosectomy and skin graft surgery in burn patients.
