CASE REPORT: TECHNIQUES AND RESULTS OF SMALL BOWEL HARVESTING FOR INTESTINAL TRANSPLANT WITH TWO CASES
Main Article Content
Abstract
Intestinal failure syndrome is a condition in which the bowel function is severely impaired below the minimal amount necessary for adequate digestion and absorption to satisfy body nutrient and fluid requirements. Intestinal transplantation is indicated for patients with irreversible intestinal failure and total parenteral nutrition (TPN) complications. In Vietnam, bowel transplantation has not been performed, but recent advances in organ transplantation show that it is possible to implement intestinal transplantation in the near future to meet the needs of treatment in the country. Therefore, Military Medical University was assigned a national-level research project by the Ministry of Science and Technology according to the decision code ĐTL.CN-22/20 "Research the isolated intestinal transplantation from living donors". Within this framework, we conducted the branch project "Research on constructing surgical procedures for harvesting, washing and preserving small bowel graft from living donors". This article will present the technical procedure and results of small bowel harvesting for intestinal transplant of two cases who had donated intestines in this national project.
