Abstract

Objectives: To examine the impact of repeated oral administration of Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth extract (CCRCC) on Wistar rats over a 90-day period. Methods: Rats were randomly assigned to 3 groups (n = 10): The control group (orally administered 10 mL/kg of distilled water); the group administered CCRCC at a dose of 50 mg/kg/day; and the group administered CCRCC at a dose of 150 mg/kg/day. Results: The oral administration of CCRCC over 90 days did not result in mortality, alterations in behavior, or changes in body weight gain among rats. Most hematological and serum biochemical parameters in the experimental groups showed no significant differences compared to the control group. A minor reduction in white blood cell count was observed at the 50 mg/kg dose (p < 0.05), which was not dose-dependent, remained within physiological limits, and did not suggest toxicity. Histopathological examinations of the liver and kidneys revealed no structural damage associated with CCRCC. Conclusion: CCRCC is well tolerated and considered safe, exhibiting no systemic toxicity or damage to target organs during subchronic toxicity assessments at doses up to 150 mg/kg/day.
