PERIPHERAL BLOOD RETICULOCYTE PARAMETERS AND THEIR ASSOCIATIONS WITH SELECTED HEMATOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL INDICES IN MAINTENANCE HEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS AT MILITARY HOSPITAL 103

Abstract
Objectives: To describe peripheral blood reticulocyte parameters and investigate their associations with selected hematological and biochemical indices in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive, analytical study was conducted on 69 maintenance hemodialysis patients at Military Hospital 103 from July 2025 to June 2026. Reticulocyte tests were done before the second dialysis session of the week and analyzed using the UniCel DxH 600. The calculated indices included the reticulocyte production index (RPI) and the red blood cell size factor (Rsf). Results: The median RPI was 0.63, and the median Rsf was 52.47. RPI was positively correlated with hemoglobin (Hb), MCV, and MCH, and negatively correlated with creatinine. Rsf was positively correlated with Hb, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, serum iron, and ferritin, and negatively correlated with CRP. Conclusion: In maintenance hemodialysis patients, low RPI suggests an erythropoietic response that is inadequate for the degree of anemia. RPI and Rsf may serve as supportive indices for anemia assessment in maintenance hemodialysis patients; RPI reflects erythropoietic response, whereas Rsf is associated with inflammatory status and iron stores.
