EMBRYOLOGICAL OUTCOMES IN PREDICTED HIGH OVARIAN RESPONDERS UNDERGOING IN VITRO FERTILIZATION USING COMBINED FSH AND LH FOR OVARIAN STIMULATION

Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate embryological outcomes following controlled ovarian stimulation using follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) combined with luteinizing hormone (LH) supplementation in women predicted to have a high ovarian response undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Methods: A retrospective, descriptive study included 120 infertile women aged < 36 years with an antral follicle count (AFC) > 15 on cycle day 2. Sixty patients underwent controlled ovarian stimulation with FSH alone (group I), while 60 received FSH combined with LH supplementation (group II) at the Military Institute of Clinical Embryology and Histology, from January to December 2025. Oocyte yield, oocyte quality, and blastocyst outcomes were compared between the two groups using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: No significant differences were observed between the two groups in the numbers of immature oocytes, degenerated oocytes, mature oocytes, or normally fertilised oocytes (all p > 0.05). However, the mean number of blastocysts was significantly higher in group II than in group I (5.48 ± 3.70 vs. 3.65 ± 2.09, p = 0.01). Conclusion: LH supplementation during controlled ovarian stimulation in women with predicted high ovarian response undergoing IVF may improve embryological outcomes.
