EVALUATION OF EARLY OUTCOMES OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY IN THE TREATMENT OF APPENDICEAL PERITONITIS AT MILITARY HOSPITAL 103, FROM 2020 TO 2025
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate intraoperative and early postoperative outcomes of laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of appendiceal peritonitis. Methods: A descriptive study combining retrospective and prospective data was performed on 105 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of appendiceal peritonitis treated by laparoscopic surgery at Military Hospital 103, during the period of 2020 - 2025. Preoperative clinical and subclinical characteristics, intraoperative indicators, and early postoperative results were assessed. Results: The mean age of patients was 43.4 ± 14.5 years; male patients accounted for 56.2%, and the proportion of underlying diseases was relatively low. Most surgeries had an operative time of < 60 minutes (70.2%), and the conversion rate to open surgery was 0.9%. Early postoperative complications accounted for 7.7% of patients, mainly trocar site infection (2.8%). The average postoperative length of hospital stay was 6.3 ± 1.8 days. Good early outcomes were achieved in 92.3%. Conclusion: Laparoscopic surgery is a safe and effective method in the treatment of appendiceal peritonitis, characterised by rapid recovery, no intraoperative accidents, and a low incidence of mild postoperative complications.
