CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND SEVERAL PRE-HOSPITAL FACTORS IN PATIENTS WITH NON-TRAUMATIC OUT-OF-HOSPITAL CARDIAC ARREST
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To describe clinical characteristics and several pre-hospital factors of non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. Method: A retrospective, descriptive study was conducted on 120 patients who were diagnosed with non-traumatic OHCA at Military Hospital 103, from January 2023 to September 2025. Results: OHCA patients were mainly male (68.3%), aged over 60 years (57.5%), and respiratory diseases and cardiovascular diseases were the leading causes of OHCA (35.8% and 30.8%, respectively). The overall mortality rate was 87.5%. Most OHCA patients were witnessed (65%), but only 20% received bystander resuscitation, and 23.3% were transported to the hospital by an ambulance. The average time from the start of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the first return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) was 25.2 ± 15.9 minutes. 25% of OHCA patients had a shockable rhythm. On admission, 83.3% of patients were in deep coma with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 3 - 5. All OHCA patients presented with failure of two or more organs. Conclusion: Respiratory and cardiovascular diseases are the most common causes of OHCA. The rate of on-site resuscitation and ambulance transport is low, patients arrive in deep coma with multiple organ failure, resulting in a very high mortality rate of 87.5%.
