Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To determine the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus and its related factors among primigravidae. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 153 pregnant women at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vinh Long General Hospital from March 2024 to March 2025. Results: The mean age of the pregnant women was 25.40 ± 6.01 years. There were 21 cases of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), accounting for 13.7%. Factors associated with an increased risk of GDM included maternal age ≥ 35 years (OR = 3.08; 95%CI: 1.14 - 8.30), pre-pregnancy obesity (OR = 3.89; 95%CI: 1.49 -10.17), smoking (OR = 2.92; 95%CI: 1.08 - 7.84), and polyhydramnios (OR = 4.21; 95%CI: 1.46 - 12.20) (p < 0.05). However, in multivariable regression analysis, only polyhydramnios remained an independent factor associated with GDM (OR = 3.27; 95%CI: 1.01 - 10.58) (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Among primigravidae, the prevalence of GDM was 13.7%. Advanced maternal age, pre-pregnancy obesity, smoking, and polyhydramnios were identified as risk factors for GDM; however, only polyhydramnios was independently associated with the condition.
