Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the early outcomes of laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy for tumors of the pancreatic body and tail. Methods: A retrospective and prospective descriptive study was conducted on 31 patients who underwent laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy at Military Central Hospital 108 from January 2019 to October 2025. Results: The mean age of the patients was 48.65 ± 19.17 years, with males accounting for 38.71% and females for 61.29%. Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy was performed in 25.81% of cases, while spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy accounted for 74.19%. The mean surgical time was 138.35 ± 35.40 minutes; the mean blood loss was 122.26 ± 208.66mL. Postoperative complications occurred in 25.81% of cases, mainly pancreatic fistula. There was no 30-day postoperative mortality. The mean time to first flatus was 1.74 ± 0.73 days; the mean postoperative hospital stay was 9.61 ± 4.98 days. Conclusion: Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy is a safe and feasible approach for the treatment of tumors in the pancreatic body and tail, offering an acceptable complication rate and rapid recovery.
