Abstract

Objectives: To describe the antibiotic formulary structure and antibiotic consumption patterns in inpatient treatment at Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital in 2024. Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using inpatient antibiotic utilization data from January 1 to December 31, 2024. Results: Antibiotics accounted for 47.7% of the total value of inpatient drug consumption in inpatient treatment. The groups with the highest cost proportions were carbapenems (23.6%), fluoroquinolones (22.8%), third-generation cephalosporins (15.5%), penicillins (14.1%), and polymyxins (10.7%). According to the AWaRe classification, the Watch group accounted for 69.8% of the total antibiotic expenditure, the Reserve group (19.4%), and the Access group (10.8%). Antibiotics subject to the prioritized management list under Decision No. 5631/QĐ-BYT by the Ministry of Health accounted for 68.5% of the total value. Parenteral antibiotics represented 97.9% of total use. Antibiotic costs and consumption were mainly concentrated in the Intensive Care Unit (50.5%). Conclusion: Inpatient antibiotic use is predominantly characterized by broad-spectrum agents. Injectable drug and group requiring high-surveillance. These findings reflect the specific clinical demands of severe burn patients and highlight the urgent need for enhanced management and optimization of antibiotic use based on consumption and cost analyses.
