Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of several factors associated with changes in maternal blood glucose levels within 7 days after antenatal corticosteroid therapy. Methods: A descriptive longitudinal study was conducted among 155 pregnant women with gestational ages ranging from 23 weeks 0/7 days to 33 weeks  6/7 days who received antenatal corticosteroid therapy at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, from November 1st 2023 to April 30th 2024. Results: A significant association was observed only between HbA1c and mean 2-hour postprandial blood glucose (r = 0.485, R = 0.74, p < 0.05), whereas no meaningful linear relationships were found between BMI, HbA1c, gestational age, and fasting or 1-hour postprandial glucose levels. In addition, no linear correlation was identified between BMI or gestational age and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose levels. These findings suggest that pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus may require adjustments in glycemic control strategies following antenatal corticosteroid therapy. Conclusion: When HbA1c increases, the 2-hour post-corticosteroid glucose level injection also increases.
