Abstract

Objectives: To compare testicular volume on Ultrasound and analyse its correlation with sperm analysis results and reproductive hormones in males seeking infertility treatment. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 410 males of reproductive age, including 200 individuals with normozoospermia, 170 with severe oligospermia, and 40 with azoospermia at several fertility centers in Hanoi. Results: The mean right testicular volume was significantly larger than the left one in the normozoospermia group (13.4 ± 1.7mL vs. 12.8 ± 1.7mL; p = 0.0003) and the severe oligospermia group (10.2 ± 1.8mL vs. 9.5 ± 1.2mL; p < 0.0001), but was similar in the azoospermia group (8.6 ± 3.1mL vs. 8.6 ± 3.0mL; p = 0.9677). Testosterone concentration was positively correlated with bilateral testicular volumes in the normozoospermia and severe oligospermia groups. Testicular volume was negatively correlated with serum FSH concentration in the azoospermia and severe oligozoospermia groups. Conclusion: The right testicular volume is significantly larger than the left in males with spermatozoa. Bilateral testicular volume is strongly associated with reproductive hormones but lacks clinical significance regarding sperm analysis parameters.
