Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the surgical outcomes of transverse carpal ligament release for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. Methods: A retrospective, descriptive study was conducted on 47 patients at 108 Military Central Hospital from January 2015 to January 2020. Results: The mean age of patients was 51.3 ± 10.4 years, with the 45 - 60 age group accounting for the highest proportion (53.2%). After surgery, the mean Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) score decreased from 3.70 ± 0.29 to 1.73 ± 0.28 (p < 0.05). The proportion of patients with positive Tinel, Phalen, and Durkan tests decreased to 6.4%; 12.8% and 14.9%, respectively (p < 0.05). The rate of thenar muscle atrophy fell to 2.1%. No complications were recorded. Conclusion: Transverse carpal ligament release is a safe and effective treatment method for carpal tunnel syndrome.
