A CLINICAL CASE REPORT: SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF COMPLICATIONS FROM LIQUID SILICONE INJECTION RHINOPLASTY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Liquid silicone is no longer used for nasal augmentation or in other areas of the body due to its high complication rate. Patients who develop complications following liquid silicone injection require surgical revision. This clinical case report was conducted on a 57-year-old female patient presenting with a short nasal dorsum and complications after dorsal nasal augmentation with liquid silicone injection. The patient underwent surgical excision of silicone-infiltrated tissue, followed by nasal dorsum and tip reconstruction using autologous costal cartilage combined with autologous fat. At 24 months postoperatively, the nasal pyramid was well balanced, the dorsum was lengthened, and both the dorsum and tip were elevated. The patient was satisfied with the outcome. Therefore, in cases of short nasal dorsum with complications secondary to liquid silicone injection for nasal augmentation, revision surgery using autologous costal cartilage and autologous fat is an appropriate approach to restore nasal structure and achieve the desired aesthetic result. Costal cartilage serves to reestablish a stable supporting framework, while autologous fat is used to restore volume deficits and enhance skin nourishment.
