CHANGES IN SOME PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL INDICATORS OF VIETNAMESE MILITARY PILOT TRAINEES DURING BREATHING AND SPEAKING TRAINING UNDER POSITIVE PRESSURE

Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate changes in selected psychological and physiological indicators of Vietnamese military pilot trainees during breathing and speakingtraining under positive pressure. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 35 Vietnamese military pilot trainees to assess variations in psychological and physiological indices, as well as tolerance ability to positive pressure, before and after the training program. Results: After training, the level of short-term pre-load anxiety decreased by 3.9% (p = 0.039). Prior to training, following simulated rapid decompression, perceived physical condition and mood indices declined by 3.7% and 5.7%, respectively (p = 0.003, p = 0.035); during positive pressure breathing, the reaction time for simple sensorimotor response (PSMR) and complex sensorimotor response (SSMR) increased by 39.7% (p < 0.001) and 6.6% (p = 0.001), respectively. Post-training, the reaction time to moving objects (RDO) during exertion showed a smaller change (9.2%) compared with the pre-training period (26.7%). Conclusion: The positive pressure breathing training program enhanced psychological and physiological stability during positive pressure breathing. These findings highlight the necessity of incorporating psycho-physiological exercises into the training programs for high-altitude military pilots.
