Abstract

Objective: To evaluate pleural biopsy results under the guidance of chest computed tomography imaging on PACS combined with ultrasound in diagnosing the cause of exudative pleural effusion. Methods: 31 patients with exusive pleural efusion, treated at Military Hospital 103 from October 2023 to October 2024. Pleural lesions were identified on chest CT via PACS and ultrasound, and guidence of pleural biopsy with a COPE needle. Results: Right-sided effusion accounted for the majority of 67.7%, mainly moderate and severe. Most pleural lesions are small ≤ 5 mm (96.8%). 100% technical success rate. Pleural tuberculosis had the highest rate (64.5%), followed by cancer (29%), and nonspecific inflammation (6.5%). 22.58% of patients experienced pain after biopsy. There were no serious complications. Conclusions: Pleural biopsy under the guidance of PACS combined with ultrasound CT imaging is an effective and safe diagnostic method, especially for small pleural lesions.
