Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the outcomes of free venous flap for coverage of soft tissue defects (STDs) of the limbs. Methods: A prospective, cross-sectional descriptive, and longitudinal study was conducted on 11 patients with limb STDs who underwent free venous flap reconstruction at Military Hospital 103 from July 2024 to July 2025. Data, including patient characteristics, flap survival, coverage effectiveness, flap size, and short- and long-term outcomes, were collected Results: Complete flap survival with primary healing was achieved in 10/11 cases (90.9%), while 1/11 (9.1%) experienced partial necrosis but still ensured effective coverage, and donor sites healed primarily in all cases (100%). At long-term follow-up, all 6 surviving flaps (100%) were soft, without ulceration, infection, or fistula. Conclusion: Free venous flap is a novel and effective reconstructive material for coverage of small- to medium-sized soft tissue defects of the limbs.
