Abstract
Objectives: Survey on knowledge about antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance of people in Hoa Hai ward, Da Nang city. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive cross - sectional study. Over 400 people in Hoa Hai ward, Da Nang city, from October 2020 - May 2021. Results: Most people believe that diseases treated with antibiotics are flu, runny nose (76.8%), cough (52.5%) and infections (35.5%). 99% people got it right that filtered water is used to take antibiotics. People’s knowledge about antibiotic treatment from 3 days - less than 5 days accounted for 50.4%; from 7 – 10 days accounted for 3.1%. Regarding how to handle when forgetting to take medicine, 88.3% correctly understood that the dose remained the same. The percentage of people who go to the doctor when using ineffective drugs is relatively high (74.9%). The lack of understanding about antibiotic resistance mainly causes costly treatment costs (70.4%). 78% of people choose method to limit antibiotic resistance, which is to buy antibiotics, that require a doctor’s prescription. Conclusion: People in Hoa Hai ward have the right knowledge about the type of water used to take antibiotics and how to handle them when they forget to take them. People choose the right way to limit antibiotic resistance, which to buy antibiotics with a doctor’s prescription. However, the majority of people do not have correct knowledge about the treatment pathology and the duration of antibiotic treatment. * Keywords: Antibiotic; Antibiotic use; Antibiotic resistance.
