NUTRITIONAL STATUS AMONG OLDER ADULTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES AT HUE UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objectives: To assess the nutritional status and identify factors associated with the nutritional status among older inpatients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 255 older inpatients with type 2 diabetes at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from April 2024 to April 2025, using the mini nutritional assessment (MNA) scale. Results: 27.8% had normal nutritional status, 56.5% were at risk of malnutrition, and 15.7% were malnourished. Factors statistically associated with nutritional status (p < 0.05) included: The 60 - 74 age group had a 0.42 times lower risk of malnutrition compared to the ≥ 75 age group (95%CI: 0.22 - 0.79); those engaged in trading had a 5.64 times higher risk of malnutrition compared to housewives (95%CI: 2.05 - 15.52); widowed individuals had a 3.54 times higher risk of malnutrition compared to single individuals (95%CI: 1.21 - 10.43); and those currently consuming alcohol had a 1.88 times higher risk of malnutrition compared to those who used to consume alcohol (95%CI: 1.02 - 3.48). Conclusion: The prevalence of malnutrition and risk of malnutrition among older inpatients with type 2 diabetes remains high.
