RESULTS OF EGFR GENE MUTATION DETECTION IN LUNG ADENOCARCINOMA PATIENTS BY REAL-TIME PCR USING RNA TEMPLATE

Abstract
Objectives: To detect EGFR gene mutations in lung adenocarcinoma patients by real-time PCR using the RNA template. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study, testing EGFR gene mutations of 149 patients with lung adenocarcinoma who were hospitalized at the Military Hospital 103 and Vietnam National Cancer Hospital (Campus 3) from February 2018 to August 2024. Results: The mutation rate of the EGFR gene at the RNA level in tissue samples was 44.3%, with single mutations accounting for 95.5% and double mutations accounted for 4.5%. The mutation rate of the EGFR gene at the RNA level in blood samples was 29.5%. Conclusion: In EGFR gene mutation testing using real-time PCR, tissue specimens using the RNA template yielded a 4.7% higher detection rate than those using the DNA template. The Kappa concordance coefficient between the two methods was 0.904.
