Abstract

Background: Gout is a common arthritis in developed countries. The treatment process includes dietary restrictions and prolonged use of drugs, causing inconvenience in daily life, unwanted side effects, economic burden, etc., greatly affecting the patient's emotions. Studying related factors that are valuable in predicting depressive disorders in this group of patients is to have more basis for finding measures to improve quality of life. Objectives: To study some factors related to depressive disorders in gout patients. Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study of 110 gout patients diagnosed and treated as outpatients at the Department of Cardiology - Rheumatology - Endocrinology / 175 Military Hospital from August 2024 to March 2025, clinical examination and using the PHQ-9 scale. Results: There was a relationship between the rate of depression according to the PHQ-9 scale and gender, education, economic status, duration of illness, number of relapses, pain level, number of tophi, the results were statistically significant (p<0,05). No association was found between the rate of depression and age, marital status, and increased uric acid. Conclusion: There is a need for preventive measures, early diagnosis, and effective treatment in Gout patients with depression.
