Objectives: To investigate the prevalence and characteristics of coexisting sarcopenia and malnutrition, as well as associated factors, in older women. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted on 353 elderly female outpatients attending the Rheumatology and Geriatrics Clinics at the University Medical Center in Ho Chi Minh City. Results: The prevalence of sarcopenia, malnutrition, and coexisting malnutrition -sarcopenia among older women was 23.8%, 31.2%, and 20.9%, respectively. Logistic regression analysis revealed that older age (OR = 1.09; p < 0.001), low physical activity (OR = 0.41; p = 0.006), osteoporosis (OR = 1.98; p = 0.03), and malnutrition (OR = 2.34; p = 0.008) were independent factors associated with sarcopenia. Conclusion: Our study highlights a substantial prevalence of sarcopenia, malnutrition, and their coexistence among elderly women. Early screening, appropriate nutritional interventions, and promotion of physical activity should be prioritized in the healthcare management of older women.
