SAFETY OF THE HOAN LUC KHANG CAPSULE IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMALS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To assess the safety of the Hoan luc khang capsule in experimental animals. Methods: Acute toxicity was assessed in mice according to the Litchfield-Wilcoxon method and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. Subchronic toxicity was evaluated in rats using the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Vietnam Ministry of Health guidelines. Results: At a maximal dose of 35 g/kg/day, which is 50 times more than the anticipated effective dose, no LD50 of Hoan luc khang capsules was detected in mice. Taking Hoan luc khang soft capsules at three dose levels of 390, 780, and 1560 mg/kg/day continuously for 42 days had no effect on the rat's weight, general health, histopathological images, or biochemical and hematological indicators. Conclusion: Hoan luc khang capsules are safe and do not produce any acute or subchronic toxicity in experimental animals.
