Abstract

Objectives: To describe the technique and early outcomes of prostatic artery embolization (PAE) using n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) as a liquid embolic agent.

Methods: Observational study.

Results: A total of 30 patients underwent prostate artery embolization via the radial artery, with an average age of 71.3 ± 8.7 years. The most common symptom was dysuria (53.3%), followed by nocturia (36.7%). NBCA glue was diluted with lipiodol at a ratio of 1:10. The average intervention time was 79.8 ± 27.9 minutes. All patients (100%) experienced no complications during prostate embolization using the plug-and-push technique with glue embolization material. Technical successfull was archived in 100% patients. Transient pain during glue injection occurred in 56.7% of cases, presenting as penile pain, and in 6.7% of cases, presenting as scrotal pain. No minor or major complications were observed, indicating a high level of safety.

Conclusion: PAE using low-polymerization NBCA glue is a safe treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
