CHARACTERISTICS OF ANXIETY DISORDERS AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN PARKINSON'S DISEASE PATIENTS WITH ANXIETY DISORDERS

Abstract
Objective: To describe the characteristics of anxiety disorders and the quality of life in Parkinson's patients with anxiety at the National Geriatric Hospital. Method: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study. The subjects are patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, examined, treated, and evaluated using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) and the 39-item Parkinson's Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire (PDQ-39) at the National Geriatric Hospital from January 1, 2024, to August 31, 2024. Results: The study recruited 98 patients. The average age of the sample was 68.68 ± 7.65 years, with females accounting for 66.3%. The proportion of patients with anxiety disorder as determined by HAM-A was 62.2%, with 20.4% having mild anxiety disorder and 26.4% having moderate anxiety disorder. Common anxiety symptoms included insomnia (91.8%), anxiety state (85.24%), stress (78.68%), and physical symptoms related to cardiovascular (81.96%) and respiratory systems (77.94%). The average quality of life score in Parkinson's patients as measured by the PDQ-39 was 37.39 ± 14.43 points. The highest average scores were in the domains of mobility and daily activities, followed by emotions and body pain. Conclusion: 62.2% of Parkinson's patients have anxiety disorders when assessed using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. Common symptoms of anxiety in Parkinson's patients include insomnia, anxiety state, stress, cardiovascular, and respiratory physical symptoms. The quality of life in Parkinson's patients with anxiety disorders is significantly affected across various domains.
