Abstract
Objective: To investigate amplitude of alpha wave in the parietal and occipital regions in both hemispheres and some related factors in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Methods: A total of 60 patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis were collected from August 2023 to May 2024 at the Department of Nephrology - Dialysis, Military Hospital 103. EEG was recorded on non-dialysis days in a resting state. Pearson correlation, independent sample T test and analysis of variance were used to analyze the data. Results: The amplitude of alpha waves in the parietal and occipital regions were 31.4 µV, 35.3 µV in the left hemisphere and 28.7 µV, 33.1 µV in the right hemisphere. Levels of creatinine, uric acid, and Ca++ in the blood were negatively and significanly correlated with the amplitude of alpha waves in the left occipital region. In contrast, height and weight were positively and significantly correlated with the amplitude of alpha waves in the occipital region in the left hemisphere. Conclusion: Decreased amplitude of alpha waves in the parietal and occipital regions on both hemispheres. Height, weight, levels of creatinine, uric acid, and calcium were factors related to EEG changes in patients on maintenance hemodialysis.
