Abstract

Objectives: To describe the endoscopic characteristics of colorectal polyps, the treatment results and complications after endoscopic resection of colorectal polyps more than 1 cm at Military Hospital 175. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study on 126 patients with 157 colorectal polyps more than 1 cm, detected and cutted at Military Hospital 175, from January 2022 until December 2023. Results: The average age patients was 58.8 ± 10.2 and the male/female ratio was 5.6/1. The rate of solitary and multiple polyps were 85.7% and 14.3%. The rate of polyps were seen most frequently at sigmoid colon (46.5%) and rectum (17.8%). Polyps 10 - 19 mm in size accounted for 80.9%. The rate of patients with pendunculated, sessile and semi - pendunculated polyps were 50.8%, 46% and 3.2%. The rate of successful polypectomy was 100%. There was no patient with serious complications. 3.2% of patients had bleeding after the procedure, which was detected and successfully treated by clipping. The proportion of submucosal injection and using clip in the group of polyps more than 20 mm was higher than in the group of polyps 10 - 19 mm in size, this difference was statistically significant (with p < 0.05). Conclusion: Endoscopic polypectomy was an effective and safe method. In cases of large and/or sessile polyps, submucosal injection and using clip were required to stop and prevent bleeding.
