Abstract

Objectives: To analyze factors related to postoperative complications following cranioplasty in patients with skull defects after decompressive craniectomy at Military Hospital 103. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study with analysis was conducted on 70 patients with skull defects following decompressive craniectomy who underwent cranioplasty at the Department of Neurosurgery, Military Hospital 103 from October 2023 to February 2025. Results: The complication rate after cranioplasty was 11.4%. The time interval from decompressive craniectomy to cranioplasty was significantly associated with postoperative complications (p < 0.001). Large skull defect area (> 75cm²) was also associated with a higher complication rate (p = 0.047). Age, sex, cause of craniectomy, medical history, preoperative Glasgow score, defect morphology, and location showed no statistically significant association with complications. Conclusion: The time interval from decompressive craniectomy to cranioplasty and the skull defect area are factors associated with complications after cranioplasty.
